Captain Steve Hall Fly Fishing Guide
Thanks for taking the time to visit my website. I am Captain Steve Hall, a licensed and insured fly fishing guide working in and around Charlotte Harbor, Boca Grande, and the nearby backcountry waters of Southwest Florida. My trips are simple, personal, and built around sight fishing from a skiff.
If you are looking for a fly fishing guide in Charlotte Harbor or Boca Grande, I want you to know how I run my days before you step on the boat. This is not a high-volume charter built around rushing from spot to spot. I focus on quiet water, clean positioning, and giving anglers realistic chances when conditions line up.
Most of my trips are best suited for anglers who already understand the basics of fly casting. You do not need to be perfect, but you should be able to make a controlled cast and listen to direction in the moment. That allows us to focus on timing, angle, fish movement, and making the most of the shots we get.
I do not teach casting from scratch on guide trips. If you are brand new to fly fishing, I recommend taking a lesson from a certified casting instructor first. I can point you toward someone who can help. That preparation makes a big difference once we are on the flats and a fish appears.

Fly Fishing Around Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande
Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande offer open harbor water, mangrove edges, grass flats, and protected backcountry. Some days are about searching wide areas. Other days are about slowing down and watching one shoreline or flat carefully. The right choice depends on tide, wind, light, season, and what the fish are doing.
As your fly fishing guide, my job is to read those conditions and put the boat where you have the best opportunity. I pay close attention to bait, birds, water clarity, current, and the way fish are moving. A good day is not always measured by numbers. Sometimes it comes down to one clean shot at the right fish.
I guide for tarpon, snook, redfish, and other shallow-water species depending on the season. I am not trying to turn this page into a full fishing report or a detailed area guide. This page is here to explain who I am, how I guide, and what kind of trip you can expect when you fish with me.
A Quiet Skiff, Clear Expectations, and Real Fishing
I run an 18-foot Hell’s Bay Waterman. It is a technical poling skiff designed for shallow water. It can comfortably carry me and up to two anglers. I do not use a trolling motor. I pole the boat by hand because it keeps the approach quiet and helps us move into position without disturbing fish.
This style of fishing rewards patience. We may spend time looking, waiting, and adjusting before the right opportunity happens. When it does, things can move fast. I will help you with distance, direction, and timing so you know where to put the fly. The goal is to give you a fair shot, not to force a cast that is not there.
I like being upfront because clear expectations make better days on the water. If conditions are difficult, I will tell you. If they look good, we will make the most of them.

Rates, Gear, and What Is Included
My rate is simple: $100 per hour for one or two anglers. You choose how many hours you would like to fish based on your schedule and the conditions. Your fishing license is provided, and I can provide rods, reels, flies, tackle, and the gear needed for the day. All trips are catch and release only.
I grew up in Sarasota and moved to the Charlotte Harbor area more than two decades ago. I have spent years learning this water and how the system works. The tides, wind, light, bait, and seasons all matter here.
I also spent much of my life in public service. That background shaped the way I guide. I believe in preparation, awareness, honesty, and doing the job the right way. When you fish with me, I want the day to feel professional, relaxed, and focused.
If you are comfortable with a fly rod and want a quiet, deliberate day on the water around Charlotte Harbor or Boca Grande, I would be glad to talk with you about a fly fishing trip.
